Some choices for youth backpacks for extended trips like Philmont. These are on the high end of volume needed for an extended backpacking trip. Adjustable torso lengths. Can grow with scout up to about 17 or 18 years of age depending on height and/or torso length. You may be able to find these on other sites at a discount.
Backpacking Equipment Vendors. These are just a few, some local and some online only. Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops also carry backpacking equipment.

On-line resource for gear reviews. This is generally a good resource for finding outdoor gear and some specific to backpacking. Their reviews are limited in product scope but overall seem to be good reviews.
